409W
409W just prior to entering the restoration shed for its major rebuild.
Over the last 2 years we have been undertaking a rebuilt of our four Workmens Sleepers which our volunteers use for overnight accommodation at the railway. 409W is the last one with it now being more than half way completed.
Like the other 3, its been stripped back to the frame with repairs to such undertaken, new windows fitted, rewired, insulated and is now ready for the new cladding to be fitted. In an change to the others, 409Ws corrugated iron roof is in poor condition and will also be replaced.
Although not your usual restoration project at a heritage railway which are normally focused on locomotives, railmotors or carriages, things that run and generate revenue for the railway, the Workmens Sleepers are no less important.
They are an investment in the railways most important resource, our volunteers.
