Let’s get a ticket to ride!

Travel on a train straight out of the good old days, when life was simpler and train services were an essential part of rural life.

Your experience starts with a journey

Our restored heritage trains, "take you for a ride" through the beautiful scenic countryside and forest of the Central Highlands, to the highest operating railway station in Victoria.

Popular with families, friends and railway buffs, the train rides start from our 1882 heritage listed railway station in Daylesford.

After departing the station, you will see the earthworks for the former line to North Creswick curve away to the right as the train rounds the left hand curve onto the Daylesford straight.

After passing through open farm land, the train enters the Wombat State Forest, where a three mile climb up a steep 1 in 50 grade commences.

The line winds and twists in typical branch-line fashion through picturesque forest and farm country on its way to Musk.

Musk Station was constructed in 1882 and is the only example of its type in use today, with a simple “mallee shed” shelter on the platform today, timber edging and an earth ramp at each end

A short distance from Musk sees the small station of Passing Clouds, built in 2018. Let the crew know if you would like to stop here and enjoy a wine tasting at the Passing Clouds cellar door

From Passing Clouds, the line travels through deep cuttings and tall embankments before once again entering the tall timbers of the Wombat State Forest.

The train continues to work hard up the 1 in 50 grade, passing through tall timbers and fern gullies to Bullarto Station.

At 2452 feet (747.4m) above sea level, Bullarto is currently the highest railway station in Victoria.

In the 1930’s Bullarto had a small, well kept passenger station with an attractive garden, a corrugated iron goods shed, long goods loading platform and a cart weighbridge. The accurate restoration of the Bullarto station facilities and environment to represent the 1930’s continues.

After a short stop at Bullarto to change direction, you will travel back to Daylesford, retracing your steps through the picturesque Central Highlands of Victoria.

The Daylesford Railway is a Rail Safety Accredited tourist railway operator, offering regular schedule or excursion heritage train experiences.
