This elegant four-car set exemplifies the modernisation of Victorian regional rail travel in the 1980s. Introduced as part of V/Line's commitment to improving country services, N18 brought new levels of comfort to long-distance rail travel.

SERVICE HISTORY
Throughout its commercial career, N18 served Victoria's principal rail routes, providing comfortable travel for both intercity commuters and long-distance passengers. The set was a familiar sight on both Geelong services and extended regional routes.

PRESERVATION JOURNEY
In 2023, as V/Line's modern VLocity diesel multiple units took over regular services, N18 was gifted to our railway as part of the classic fleet disposal project. All four carriages made the journey by road to Daylesford between August 2023 and May 2025, marking an exciting new chapter in our operational capability.

CURRENT STATUS
Currently in service for charter operations and special running days, N18 represents the future of our heritage operations. Our long-term vision includes developing a premium dining train experience, allowing visitors to enjoy first-class railway dining while travelling through the picturesque Victorian countryside.
