The K is large trolley designed to carry 6 people and some tools (the size of a special or large gang). the heavier K can carry 8 men, or half an imperial ton. The trolleys were powered by a 8HP two stroke single cylinder water jacket cooled engine.

Information suggests that the KS & K ganger trolleys followed the traditions of Australian Railways and were a knock-off of the American Casey Jones section cars.

These cars were built by the Spotswood Workshops, with castings coming from the Newport Workshops, just out of Melbourne.
