ROLLINGSTOCK RESTORATION/MAINTenaNCE

Rolling Stock Branch is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of our trains. With the average age of our operating fleet being over seventy years, and some approaching one hundred, keeping this equipment operational can be a challenge.

However, an equal challenge is restoring those items that have long been out of use. These projects can take many years and involve complete frame up rebuilds. The railmotors can be particularly challenging, as you are restoring a carriage and engine in the one vehicle.​

Volunteers work across both maintenance and restoration as required. Some have trade skills which they bring with them, while others learn these along the way. The satisfaction from seeing a project roll out of the shed knowing you were part of the team is a great sense of achievement.
